Los Angeles Angels

One gift LA Angels want is a Trout extension.

The LA Angels and their fans are starting to sweat as the end of the 2020 season is getting closer and there is still no movement toward a Mike Trout contract extension.

The LA Angels have been floundering over the past four seasons missing out of the playoffs each season and only finishing over .500 in one season which was 2015.  The Angels have arguably the best player in baseball in Mike Trout and yet the Angels cant seem to put together a winning team that could get Trout and company into the post-season.

There has been clamoring and it continues to get louder as the winter of 2020 keeps getting closer and closer.  If the Angels are not competitive by the time Mike Trout’s contract expires in 2020 will he walk away and leave all Angel fans sad and lonely. The possibility is looking more and more like it could be a reality with every Angel injury and free agent bust.

The Angels general manager Billy Eppler has approached Trout and his agent Craig Landis about the possibility of a contract extension that is probably in the neighborhood of 10 years and 350 to 400 million dollars.  Whether Trout would except such a deal is anyone’s guess at the moment.  Trout does like Anaheim and its fans, but on the same token he wants to win too and if the Angels are not in a position to be contenders this may Mike Trout more likely to walk away.

However, if you look what the Angels are building in the farm system  Trout may have reason to stay.  The Angels have drafted a lot of talented players which could be ready in the next two years that would make the Angels competitive for many years to come.

Names such as Jo Adell, Brandon Marsh, Jahmai Jones, Matt Thaiss, Griffin Canning, and Daniel Sandoval to name a few, not to mention guys already in the majors such as Shohei Ohtani, Jaime Barria, David Fletcher, Taylor Ward, Justin Anderson, and Kenyan Middleton.

With all this said there is hope on the horizon and if Mike Trout really looks hard at things, he could have plenty of help soon and this could make the Angels a pennant contender for years to come.
